Blow Out: Alma Salon, Gotham Magazine, and Yet Another Bravo Show about Style at Room Service

Per usual, the crowd at Room Service was wearing fancy clothing and sipping fancy cocktails, but not to the sounds of a trendy DJ; no, tonight all eyes were on the various screens playing Bravo's new reality series "Better Half" featuring Alma G. of the Alma Salon in New York. Alma already has a list of impressive accomplishments under her belt—her own salon at age 24, a roster of celebrity clients including Keri Russell and Jamie Lynn Siegler, but we were now witnessing a true challenge: she had to teach her "better-half", personal trainer Timothy Cruz, to style hair in 48 hours in a head-to-head competition with another couple for the 20K prize. The party thrown by Gotham Magazine was filled with friends and clients of the couple, who hooted and howled as poor Timothy was schooled in the art of a blow-out. Many of Alma's friends assured us that the show was unfairly edited to make seem "bitchy" and "dramatic" for entertainment purposes. Well, actions speak louder than words (or, ahem, editing) and the Bravo Network has since engaged Alma to work on additional projects. So in the very least, they found her…entertaining. And isn't that the best compliment you can give in show business?
